Yemi Odubade is a Nigerian striker who began his career down at Eastbourne Borough. He had a prolific spell on the South Coast, which alerted Yeovil Town into signing him in the summer of 2004. Yemi failed to settle at Huish Park though and was allowed to leave the club after making just 6 appearances, scoring 1 goal.
Yemi re-joined Eastbourne where again he found his form and this prompted Oxford United to gamble on the pacy attacker. Halfway through the 2005/2006 season, Oxford paid £15,000 to Eastbourne for Odubade’s services. Overall, Yemi’s spell at Oxford was a success. There were some that thought all he had was pace, but there were some supporters that felt he gave the team a different option. Yemi made 143 appearances for the U’s, scoring 31 times. Not a bad record considering only 77 of those 143 appearances were starts.
Stevenage completed the signing of Odubade after Oxford released him in the summer of 2009. He gave Graham Westley another option in attack and his pace certainly opened up a few Blue Square Premier defences during the season. He was another one that seemed to benefit of the 4-3-3 system that Boro adopted during the 2009/2010 campaign. Yemi was a constant headache for opposition defences and his work rate got him 16 goals in his opening season at Broadhall Way. He’s improved a lot in his first year and seems to be maturing. I think the best is yet to come from Yemi.
