Further snow likely to postpone Wrexham fixture

It’s looking increasingly likely that Stevenage will have another game postponed this weekend as the ‘big freeze’ continues in the UK. Weather warnings have been dished out to parts of North West England, the West Midlands and Southern England while Boro’s re-arranged FA Trophy fixture against Vauxhall Motors was put back again to next Tuesday due to freezing conditions and snow. It has apparently snowed a bit today in Stevenage, while here in Milton Keynes it is quite heavy and is still snowing.

Boro’s opponents this weekend haven’t played since the middle of December. Dean Saunders’ side have had 7 straight games postponed due to the weather and according to reports, their Racecourse Ground is still not ready for football ahead of Saturday’s clash.

“I am very concerned by the fixture backlog. We will have to play on Saturday, Tuesday, Thursday then again on Saturday and it could be worse if the weather doesn’t get any better. We will have to play all of the games eventually, but it will be a severe test of my squad.” Saunders on Wrexham’s fixture list

According to the BBC website, Wrexham’s ground is still under 3 inches of snow and is completely frozen. Staff at the club have given the game a 50/50 chance of being on and regular inspections of the pitch are taking place. Looking on the Wrexham forum and they also believe there is a 50/50 chance of it being on. Forecasts in North Wales say that snow is again expected today before clearing for heavy rain. It’s likely that even if the snow and ice clears, then it may be called off due to a waterlogged pitch!

Dover won their FA Trophy second round tie last night, beating Fleetwood 1-0. The one goal from former Barnet striker Adam Birchall was enough for the Kent side to progress. It was Fleetwood’s first defeat at home since March 2009. If we do win our re-arranged game against Vauxhall Motors then we will play Dover at Broadhall Way on the 30th January, which will mean our fixture away against Altrincham will be postponed.

In other news, Histon have now sacked Steve Fallon just days after coming back to the club after being suspended. Chairman Tony Roach has claimed that irreconcilable differences between Fallon and the board are the reason for his departure. Assistant manager Alan Lewer will now take temporary charge again, until a new manager is found.
