McMahon move stalls

Daryl McMahon’s proposed move to Cambridge is on the brink of collapse apparently after he failed a medical. Boro’s chief executive, Bob Makin confirmed earlier today that McMahon was talking to Cambridge about a move after it was revealed yesterday by AmberArmy.net.

“Daryl has been available for some time and a number of clubs have made enquiries about him. It’s still in the very early stages with Cambridge, but we’re hopeful that something can be wrapped up by the end of the week.” Bob Makin on McMahon

However, since then a thread on BoroChat says that McMahon had failed a routine medical due to a mysterious knee injury? I don’t recall McMahon suffering from a knee injury before and it has certainly not affected his playing time before he was frozen out by Westley. The only injury I can remember Daryl suffering from was a suspected “broken” ankle earlier in the season. His injury though wasn’t as bad as first feared and he returned to the Boro side later in the month. At this time (October) he was still considered as a vital part of the squad. What this does to the move I don’t know, but I have a feeling that the deal will still go through, especially if it’s only a deal until the end of the season, with it being a free transfer as well?

Graham Westley has also been speaking to the Comet about his plans for the January transfer window.

“I’m not planning anything too outrageous. We’re looking about and thinking about what we might need between now and the end of the season, but most important is that we keep building on what we’re doing.

It’s good that he isn’t looking to overhaul the whole squad as I think we have the nucleus of a good side now, but it is keeping the core of the side settled which has to be the aim for the new year. That has happened recently and an unbeaten run has come of it. I said a while back that I felt defensive reinforcements were needed and he’s addressed that by bringing in Mark Roberts and Darren Murphy, who can also play at the back. I think he may sign a striker before the deadline after allowing Iyseden Christie to make his move to Kettering Town permanent. Who that is depends on who’s available, but I can’t imagine any money being spent now. A loan deal is a possibility, but it won’t be a return to BHW for Anthony Elding. Maybe Jerome Anderson can step up to the plate?
