Lewes Preview & Thomas Leaves

Stevenage are back in action tomorrow afternoon when they visit Lewes for the first time. The side from East Sussex are currently struggling at the bottom of the Blue Square Premier table, but did win their first game in 4 last time out with a 2-0 home win against Grays. Boro will be looking to get back to winning ways after 6 games, in all competitions, without a win.
All sorts of problems have occured at Lewes since the club won promotion from the Blue Square South last season. Manager Steve King left after promotion to be replaced by the inexperienced Kevin Keehan. Most of the title winning squad has also left and the club are currently struggling financially. Top scorer Scott Taylor was the latest player to leave this week, joining Staines Town, who along with Lewis Bell, Craig Richards and Manny Sackey have been allowed to leave due to cutting costs. Lewes though will have Barnet youngester Joe Tibiri available after the club extended his loan deal.
Boro will not be playing the same team again after Anthony Thomas was today released to join Hemel Hempstead. Thomas started last Saturday against Wrexham, but has been allowed to leave Broadhall Way after just 6 months. Westley never seemed to like Thomas and I’m not surprised he has been allowed to move on.
Steve Morison is expected to be back for tomorrow’s game and should replace Thomas in a straight swap, partnering either Lee Boylan or Callum Willock in attack. Lawrie Wilson also returns to first team action and could come in to the starting 11. Eddie Anaclet, Mark Albrighton and David Bridges are all out for the visit to the Dripping Pan.
On paper, Boro should win tomorrow, but after an awful run of form Graham Westley’s side lack confidence and a trip to the South Coast doesn’t look the most appetising of trips to get back to winning ways. Lewes will be on a high after their win over Grays last week and if Boro don’t perform then expect another disappointment come 5pm tomorrow.
Prediction: Lewes 1-2 Boro
