Eastbourne Preview

Boro are back in action tomorrow lunchtime when they travel to Eastbourne Borough, live on Setanta Sports. After the 3-2 win over Mansfield on Tuesday night, Stevenage moved into the top 10 of the Blue Square Premier table for the first time this season. Opponents, Eastbourne are at the wrong end of the table after a recent poor run of form. The south coast side have lost their last 3 games and have just picked up 2 points in the last 6. It seems that the other “Boro” have had an up and down start to life in the top tier of non-league football. They lost 3 of their first 4 games, but then went on a 3 match winning run. They will be looking to win their first match since the beginning of September at Priory Lane tomorrow.

Oddly enough although we are only in October, this will be Stevenage’s second game against Eastbourne already this season. Both sides met back in August in Stevenage’s first home game of the season, with the South coast side coming away with all 3 points. Graham Westley’s side had come home following a 5-0 hammering away at Wrexham and were looking to kick start their season with a convincing victory against newly promoted Eastbourne. However, things didn’t go to plan and goals from Pat Harding and two for Andy Atkin gave Garry Wilson’s team their first win in the BSP.

Boro have no new injury worries after the win against Mansfield. Although Lawrie Wilson went off with a broken nose in that game, it’s expected he will be fit to be apart of the squad. Lee Boylan, Andy Drury and David Bridges are still long term absentees. Graham Westley may decide to bring Eddie Anaclet into the starting eleven after a solid substitute appearance on Tuesday. I expect Daryl McMahon to continue on the left after an impressive return from injury. With John Martin expected to miss out, Michael Bostwick could again partner Gary Mills in midfield with Tommy Black on the right. I expect the impressive strike partnership of Steve Morison and Mitchell Cole again to be on show on Setanta.

There will be no Jean-Michel Sigere for Eastbourne as he has moved on loan to Horsham in a 3 month loan deal. One ex Boro player that may feature tomorrow is Simon Wormull who joined in the summer from Lewes. New signing Kayleigh Osbourne is expected to make his debut against Stevenage after signing on loan from Brentford. Striker Andy Atkin, who scored a brace at BHW earlier in the season could miss out after suffering with a calf injury.

On paper Boro should comfortably win at Priory Lane, but this is could prove to be a banana skin for Stevenage in front of the Setanta cameras. Our team is a lot more settled than it was two months ago, although the defensive frailties from that night still exist. Arguably we have the 3 best attacking players in the BSP in Morison, Cole and McMahon and should get goals tomorrow against a leaky Eastbourne defence. If the Stevenage defence and midfield can work better together then Boro should bring all 3 points back to Hertfordshire come 4pm tomorrow.

Prediction: Eastbourne 1-3 Stevenage
