Forest Green 0-3 Boro

Boro won their 3rd game in a row with an impressive 3-0 win away at Forest Green. After 2 good home wins against Burton and Altrincham respectively, Boro travelled to Gloucestershire aiming to get another 3 points on the board at a ground where they have struggled in recent seasons to pick up points. Graham Westley made one change from the team that started against Altrincham, with Mitchell Cole replacing the injured Daryl McMahon. They couldn’t of asked for a better start when Lee Boylan put Boro in front after little over a minute. Boylan scored a typical predators goal, finishing after good work from Michael Bostwick.
The Boylan-Morison partnership again worked well throughout as Boro dominated the first half. Boylan set up the second goal, which sent Morison through and he finished well to double the visitors lead. Boro had plenty of other opportunites to add to the score with Boylan, Wilson and Cole all missing chances. Forest Green’s best chance came just before half-time when Adriano Rigoglioso had a shot saved superbly by goalkeeper Chris Day.
The second half was a bit of an anti-climax. Boro didn’t seem to flow as well going forward as Forest Green looked to get back into the game. They couldn’t find a way through though as Boro continued to show their improved organisation at the back. Boro’s first half performance was good attacking football, while their second half was a “professional” performance, knowing that if they didn’t concede they would win the game. Although I’d prefer to see Boro attack throughout the 90 minutes, sometimes away from home the hard defensive work has to be done and results have to be grinded out. Callum Willock completed a satisfactory afternoon when he shot home from the edge of the box after 8 minutes of injury time.
A good win at a ground where we had never won before. 3 wins in a row puts us in 14th place level on points with Torquay, Wrexham, Barrow and our opponents from yesterday Forest Green. We are just 4 points off breaking into the play-offs. This season could be a very tight one as it seems that any team can beat anyone on their day. 3 teams are adrift at the bottom (Northwich, Woking & Lewes), but the remaining 21 teams could finish anywhere in the BSP come April. Next up for us is Grays, live on Setanta, at the Recreation Ground on Thursday where another 3 points is highly possible.
Ipswich aren’t happy over Boro’s use of loanee Ed Upson. Upson has made just 1 appearance so far, since moving to Boro from Ipswich on transfer deadline day, when he came on against Kettering.
“Ed Upson was once more left out of the Stevenage Borough 16, having played for their reserves earlier in the week, and looks unlikely to have his spell extended by Town unless Boro start to play him in first team matches.”
The difficult thing for Upson is that we have began to hit form since John Martin came back from injury. His partnership with Bostwick has been good and at the moment there is no need to change a winning side. Upson played well for the reserves in mid-week, scoring in a 2-1 win over Watford.
