Blue Square Premier Wrap Up

Posted by sgmboro on 15/09/2008

Crawley went top of the Blue Square Premier table, beating then leaders Mansfield 2-1 at the Broadfield Stadium. Goals from Adam Quinn and Jamie Cook were enough to give the Sussex side the 3 points. The point at Broadhall Way between us and Crawley, when we weren’t particularly playing well now looks like 1 point gained rather than 2 points dropped. Torquay upset the form book beating Cambridge at the Abbey thanks to a last minute goal from Wayne Carlisle. Cambridge are still in the play-off places, while Torquay are in 17th position on the same points as ourselves. Woking won their first game of the season, beating Grays 3-1 at Kingfield. Ex-Boro midfielder Mark Molesley put the Essex side in front, but goals from Wilfried Dormoraud, Paul Lorraine and Joel Ledgister gave the Cards all 3 points.

Elsewhere in the Blue Square Premier, Iyseden Christie hit 2 goals on his home debut for Kettering Town. Christie who moved to Rockingham Road on loan from Boro helped his side beat unbeaten York City 4-2 as the Poppies moved up to 3rd in the Blue Square Premier table. Kettering have made a very good start to life back at the top of the non league pyramid and are only 2 points off leaders Crawley Town. Here’s what some Kettering fans thought of Christie’s performance against York.

“He played very well, led the line well, held the ball up, scored two great goals (his 1st a half volley from the edge of the area) and seems to be linking up with Seddon very well. You must have some good strikers if you can afford to loan him out, not that I am complaining that you have.” Dazza (KTFC)

“Seddon and Christie both had a good game. The amount of flicks and through passes, gave us so many possible chances if the linesman had let it play.” Desderry

“When Christie’s a bit sharper he’ll time his runs better. Very impressed with Christie’s finish for the first, how he got it to that point though who knows! His second was really well worked.” Andeh (KTFC)

Stevenage Reserves play Watford Reserves on Wednesday in their next game of the Football Combination League. In the last reserve outing Boro were comfortably beaten 3-0 at London Road by a strong Peterborough United side. Watford are also expected to field a strong side when they visit Broadhall Way. All the reserve profiles on the blog have now been completed.

Another reminder that Issue 21 of The Broadhall Way is out on the 28th September. All contributions need to be sent to thebroadhallway@hotmail.com by Thursday 18th September.

UPDATE: Fred Murray, who joined Boro last January after being released by Stafford Rangers, has been given a short term contract by League 2 Exeter City. He has been signed to give cover to first team regulars Matt Taylor and Dean Moxey. Another ex Boro player from last season, Tes Bramble, has joined non league Leiston FC. How the mighty have fallen!
