Boro Reserves were beaten 3-0 at London Road this afternoon by Peterborough United Reserves in their second reserve game of the season. Boro drew their first reserve game of the season 1-1 at home against Wycombe Wanderers. First team players like Callum Willock, Ed Upson, Peter Vincenti and Michael Jordan were in the team, but couldn’t help prevent a comfortable victory for Posh. Ex Boro trainee Shaun Batt scored twice for the hosts with striker Scott Ginty getting the other goal.
There isn’t much news concerning Boro at the moment so elsewhere in the Blue Square Premier, Cambridge have strengthened their squad further with the signing of 22 year old striker Danny Crow. The U’s are currently joint top of the Blue Square Premier, but have decided to sign Crow to enhance their chances of promotion. Crow began his career as a trainee at Norwich City before moving to Peterborough United. He is a quality player and is definately good enough to still be playing in the league, but his attitude lets him down. The Sky programme with Ron Atkinson didn’t show Crow in a good light at all along with former Boro loanee Sean St Ledger. Both of them acted like they were too big for Posh and wanted moves to bigger clubs. If Cambridge boss, Gary Brabin, can sort out Crow’s attitude then they have got a very good signing.
Boro’s captain for last season, Ashley Westwood, has left Walsall after failing to impress manager Jimmy Mullen during a trial period with the Saddlers. Mullen said on Westwood;
“Ashley has been here for a week, but I spoke to him to explain he was very similar to what we have got, so we won’t be taking it any further.”
Can’t imagine Walsall doing well in League 1 this season if the defenders they have are similar to Westwood, who couldn’t even get into a Blue Square Premier squad that includes Luke Oliver!
Albert Jarrett, who had a loan spell at Boro in 2004 is on trial at Gillingham. He’s the third winger to have formerly played for Stevenage to have gone on trial at Priestfield this summer. Ally John and Tyrone Berry have also had trials in order to try and impress Mark Stimson.
