3rd time lucky?

Stevenage host unbeaten Weymouth tomorrow afternoon looking to get some points on the board at the 3rd time of asking. After the opening day hammering at Wrexham, Boro looked to try and get back to winning ways in midweek, but were soundly beaten by Eastbourne Borough. Not only have the results been poor, but certain players are not performing how they should be at present and Graham Westley will have to address this when picking his team tomorrow.

With Steve Morison still suspended, Weymouth won’t have to deal with Boro’s main goal threat. So far this season scoring goals have been a problem for Westley’s side and without Morison and Mitchell Cole, Boro could again struggle in front of goal. Boylan looked rusty the other night, while I think Thomas will be a hit or miss type of player. Tuesday was one of his “off” days, but hopefully the Thomas we saw in pre-season can re-appear against the Terras. Calum Willock and Iyseden Christie are also challenging for a place in the starting 11. I thought Christie played well against Eastbourne and if he can continue to work on his fitness I think he will be a useful player for us this coming season.

There is some confusion over the situation of another striker in Craig Westcarr. Rumours are that the former Nottingham Forest striker could be on his way back to Kettering Town. The rumour could be fabrication, but considering both clubs have never announced an agreed fee for Westcarr it could well be true. He may not be officially registered with Stevenage therefore hasn’t featured in the last 2 squads? I don’t know what the ins and outs of this deal are, but it would be good if the club clarified the situation.

I believe tomorrow will be another difficult afternoon for Boro and I think Westley will stick with Albrighton at the back again, even though he has been the worst performer so far this season. I very much doubt he will drop the man he installed as captain after just 2 starts? As for the rest of the team, it’s a mystery. Westley said in his recent interview with the official site that he thought Bostwick played very well in the middle of the park, so he could move into midfield tomorrow with either Anaclet or Wilson playing at right-back. I think Drury will start again, but maybe this time on the wing. Players in the right position would be a good start for tomorrow’s game.

Prediction: Boro 2-2 Weymouth
