Slough Preview

Boro travel to Berkshire tomorrow night to visit Slough Town in their last pre-season friendly. Graham Westley has already said that the game will be used for squad players. The team line up will be interesting though as it will probably give a good idea as to who will and will not play at the Racecourse. Boro are also looking to keep their unbeaten record of pre-season against non-league teams in tact.

Steve Morison has talked to the official site about the new season ahead and his new 3 year contract.

“I have a contract for three years and if at the end of this year, we don’t go up then we will sit down and talk about it again. But hopefully we will go up this year and we will all end up where we want to be.”

This confirms what everyone thinks regarding his future. I think Morison could be important as we look to win promotion this season, but if we fail to go up this time around he will definately go into the football league. This season is really make or break in some ways. One good point from the interview though was Morison saying he is happy at the club and that if we do get into the league then he’ll be more than happy to stay at BHW. Lets hope we are both in the league this time next year!

Tom Youngs, who had a trial at Boro earlier in pre-season, has spoken about his short time at Broadhall Way. Youngs is currently trying to earn a contract at Cambridge United where he had a successful time at earlier in his career. New U’s boss Gary Brabin is still looking to strengthen his depleted squad in time for the first game this coming weekend.

“I got my fitness with three weeks at Stevenage, but when I got there Graham Westley had already signed half the Conference.”

Meanwhile, Tommy Smith is pushing for a start for Championship side Ipswich Town when they begin their league campaign this Saturday. Smith, who was one of Peter Taylor’s better signings last season has impressed Town’s boss Jim Magilton during pre-season and could start alongside new signing Gareth McAuley for the visit of Preston North End.

Lastly ex-Boro right back Damien Batt has joined Fisher Athletic after a successful trial period. Batt was released by Stevenage this summer after having a spell on loan at Woking.
