Boro return to training

Stevenage Borough returned to training last Monday and began their gruelling pre-season schedule ahead of what could be an interesting season . According to Assistant Manager John Dreyer things are going well despite the hot weather.
“Pre season serves a purpose; it’s all about fitness and getting the balance of the team right, rather than just getting the results. The players worked really hard on Monday and Tuesday. It’s hard enough at the best of times but added to the heat we’ve had, the players have done really well.”
Boro begin their pre-season programme away at Gillingham in 12 days time before another 10 games ahead of their visit to Wrexham on the 9th August. It’s a tough schedule considering Boro play on average every 3 days as well as their fitness training in between. Craig Westcarr has been training with Boro even though his move from Kettering is yet to be finalised. This deal has been on ice for a while now and Stevenage have said for a few weeks now that the transfer should be “imminent”. The club are also expected to announce their new full coaching team by the end of this week. I assume the new fitness and goalkeeping coach have been in training this week as the players begin their pre-season preparations.
Phil Wallace has been talking to the Comet about the season ahead. He said that he was very happy with how things have gone regarding the new management team and that the squad looks very healthy. He seemed very confident about Boro’s promotion chances even stating that we would have the league wrapped up by the time we play Mansfield on the final day of the season. PW also talked about how the board will be stronger this season due to the extra additions made over the summer. The extra additions have definately strengthened the club as a whole and hopefully given the club extra spending power.
